How many questions and how long?

85 questions in a single ~8.5-hour exam window; the appointment is about 9.5 hours including the tutorial and a 50-minute break.

Is it open-book?

No. It is closed-book computer-based testing. You are given a searchable NCEES reference handbook and designated NFPA code excerpts on-screen.

How often is it offered?

The Fire Protection PE exam is currently offered once per year. Confirm the current date on the NCEES website.

What score do I need to pass?

There is no fixed percentage; NCEES sets the passing standard against minimally-competent practicing engineers. A timed practice score comfortably in the mid-70s or above is a good readiness sign.

What topics are tested?
