Chilled Water Pump Calculator

Quickly size and select CHWP(s)

The HVAC chilled water pump calculator is designed to be comprehensive to apply to nearly all chilled water designs, but also simply and easy to use. The interface is in excel format which makes it easy for anyone to quickly learn. You are able to add in extra rows to your pressure drop calculation similar to how you would with excel. Inputting data is simple and intuitive, just follow the examples within the calculator. Change pipe material, pipe sizes, flow rates and add valves or fittings to each pipe run and have the calculator automatically determine the pressure drop through the run.

The references that create the basis of this calculator are also editable such that you can customize roughness values or add-in pipe sizes. However, if you do not feel comfortable making changes, then simply email me and I will customize the spreadsheet to suit your needs.

The calculator also beautifully prints to a standard 8.5 x 11 format for your basis of design or other design report appendix.

Hawaii general excise tax is not included in the cost below and will be added to the final cost.

More Information

As an experienced engineer you should be able to quickly and accurately size and select your chilled water pump(s). Each chilled water system is different, but this calculator takes the most common piping and fluid properties to make the most comprehensive chilled water pump calculator on the market. This calculator also comes with a detailed instruction manual that does not only explain how to use the calculator but also explains how to design a chilled water pump with easy to use verbiage and figures.

Instruction Manual

Download the instruction manual and whitepaper Chilled Water Pump Calculator - Whitepaper. Learn about the design experience and equations behind the calculator. The calculator has an instruction manual specifically on the calculator and how to use the calculator, but this PDF also includes design instructions.

BUILT-IN PIPE INFO.

The calculator comes with the following pipes, Steel ASTM A53, Schedule 40 and 80; Copper ASTM B88, Types K, L & M; PVC ASTM D2241 SDR 21 & 26; Polypropylene ASTM D2241 SDR 21 and also leaves room for custom piping. I can also quickly add any piping to the calculator that you wish, once you purchase.

ROUGHNESS FACTORS

Easily adjust the roughness factor for different pipe materials. The roughness can be adjusted based on the age of the piping. You can also add in your own roughness factor for your own custom pipe under the User designated rows.

PIPE MATERIAL TYPES

Under each pipe material are the most common chilled water pipe types. For example under Copper, there are Type K, L & M pipe types. Also the standard that governs each pipe material/type are the standard pipe sizes and the corresponding inner diameter and inner area data for each pipe size.

MORE PIPE TYPES

This figure shows the pipe sizes that are available for each pipe material/type. The available pipe sizes are determined by the piping standard, like ASTM A53, ASTM B88 or ASTM D2241.

MANY PIPE FITTINGS

All of the standard pipe fittings are available within the calculator. You can easily add a fitting to a pipe run by just inputting the number of each fitting under the corresponding column. This figure shows the available pipe fittings and the two joining methods that are common for chilled water piping.

>COMMON FLUIDS

Chilled water systems will typically have water or a propylene/ethylene glycol-water mixture. This calculator gives you the option to select your specific fluid, whether it is 100% water or a 50%-50% water gylcol mixture. The calculator will automatically adjust the fluid properties, which will automatically adjust the pressure drop calculations.
