Condenser Water Pump Calculator

Quickly size and select CDWP(s)

With a 100% Money Back Guarantee

The HVAC condenser water pump calculator is designed to be comprehensive to apply to nearly all condenser water designs, but also simple and easy to use. The interface is in excel format which makes it easy for anyone to quickly learn. You are able to add in extra rows to your pressure drop calculation similar to how you would with excel. Inputting data is simple and intuitive, just follow the examples within the calculator. Change pipe material, pipe sizes, flow rates and add valves or fittings to each pipe run and have the calculator automatically determine the pressure drop through the run.

The references that create the basis of this calculator are also editable such that you can customize roughness values or add-in pipe sizes. However, if you do not feel comfortable making changes, then simply email me and I will customize the spreadsheet to suit your needs.

The calculator also beautifully prints to a standard 8.5 x 11 format for your basis of design or other design report appendix.

Hawaii general excise tax is not included in the cost below and will be added to the final cost.

More Information

As an experienced engineer you should be able to quickly and accurately size and select your condenser water pump(s). Each condenser water system is different, but this calculator takes the most common piping and fluid properties to make the most comprehensive condenser water pump calculator on the market. This calculator also comes with a detailed instruction manual that does not only explain how to use the calculator but also explains how to design a condenser water pump with easy to use verbiage and figures.

Instruction Manual

Download the instruction manual and whitepaper Condenser Water Pump Calculator - Whitepaper. Learn about the design experience and equations behind the calculator. The calculator has an instruction manual specifically on the calculator and how to use the calculator, but this PDF also includes design instructions.

PIPING LOSSES

Input each pipe section into the excel calculator. Easily insert whether or not the pipe section is on the hydraulically remote run and if it is in the suction or discharge. Then indicate the flow rate, pipe material, pipe size and pipe length. The calculator will then calculate the inner area, inner diameter, reynolds number and all other necessary calculations to determine the pressure loss and velocity in the pipe.

MISCELLANEOUS LOSSES

The second set of losses is due to equipment losses. These losses include chillers, cooling towers, coils, flow meters, etc. The calculator has a section where you can add in these losses. These losses should be provided to you by the manufacturer. The third set of losses is due to pipe expansions and reductions. These types of losses are calculated differently from pipe fittings.

CLEAR RESULTS

The outputs of the calculator is a summary of the various pressure drops (piping ,equipment and pipe expansions/reductions). Also there will be losses due to elevation if the condenser water system is open. The calculator automatically accounts for this type of situation and separates the elevation head on the pump suction and discharge. This will tell you the total dynamic head and the net positive suction head available.

PIPE EXPANSIONS & REDUCTIONS

The pipe expansions and reductions section includes tapered, rounded and many more types of transitions.

pic

STANDARD PIPE TYPES

The calculator comes with all the standard pipe types used in condenser water systems, like steel (schedule 40 and 80), copper (type K, L, M), polypropylene, PVC, etc. The calculator automatically determines the inner diameter and inner area of your selected pipe.

pic

PIPE PROPERTIES INCLUDED

The calculator also includes the pipe properties like roughness and pipe types within each material. There is also the possibility of expanding the calculator to include more pipe materials and pipe types under the placeholders (user_1, user_2 and user_3)

pic

MORE PIPE TYPES

This figure shows the available pipe sizes within each pipe material & type combination. This is just a snippet of the calculator, there are many more pipe types and materials, as shown in the figure on the right.

pic

MANY PIPE FITTINGS

This figure shows the available pipe sizes within each pipe material & type combination. This is just a snippet of the calculator, there are many more pipe types and materials, as shown in the figure on the left.

pic

MANY PIPE FITTINGS

All of the standard pipe fittings are available within the calculator. You can easily add a fitting to a pipe run by just inputting the number of each fitting under the corresponding column. This figure shows the available pipe fittings and the two joining methods that are common for condenser water piping.

pic

MORE PIPE FITTINGS

The calculator automatically combines the various pipe fittings with the various pipe materials and finds the correct pressure drop through the pipe material and fitting combination.

pic

ELEVATION AFFECTS NPSHA

The elevation will affect the net positive suction head available (NPSHA). The calculator will automatically determine the absolute pressure available for these calculations, once you input the elvation of your project.

pic

COMMON FLUIDS

Condenser water systems will be water, but the temperature of the water will affect the viscosity and vapor pressure which will affect the total dynamic head and NPSHA calculations. The calculator will automatically adjust the fluid properties, which will automatically adjust the TDH and NPSHA calculations.

INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED

The 1st sheet includes detailed instructions on how to operate the calculator, but it is relatively simple to operate the calculator and you may not need the instructions. More importantly, there is a link to the condenser water pump design guide that will give you more insight into how to design a condenser water pump and a condenser water system. In addition, you will also get the contact information of Justin, who will be able to answer any of your questions or be able to edit the calculator to suit your needs.
